November’s Beauty Discovery from Beauty Heroes may have been my favorite to date! Which is why I’m posting this review shamefully late — it’s just that good! The new-to-me brand Inlight Beauty delivered two beautiful products. The hero, Line Softener Intensive ($129) and the sidekick, Super-Food Mask ($58) are both absolute dreams I see taking up space in my beauty cabinet for the foreseeable future.
The Line Softener Intensive is the Oscar Party of oils. Every talented star we know and love is in attendance, along with a few up-and-comers. Jojoba, argan, macadamia, olive, sunflower, apricot kernel, coconut, rosehip, and evening primrose deliver the fatty acids that plump skin, but carrot root, rose, horsetail, and other plant elements help the formula to absorb, rather than sitting atop skin and feeling greasy.
The Super-Food Mask promotes healthy cell turnover and collagen production with spirulina, barely leaf, and rosehip oil, while rose seed oil, baobab, carrot root and frankincense deliver a concentration of antioxidants and vitamins to skin “in need of a radiant lift.”
Wow. Wow. And wow.
The Line Softener Intensive arrives in a short but wide miron glass jar. It is a pale yellow with an almost balm-like texture in the jar, but a bit more workable in your hand. It melts into skin almost on contact. The fragrance is exquisite — botanical but not floral — and both soft and pleasing. I had a hard time detecting it on my skin after I applied it.
Despite what the insert reads, I would not describe this product as “non-greasy”. Now, I have a notoriously heavy hand when applying products (is there really any better way than slathering?!) but even when I scaled back and tried to use the smallest amount, I still felt like my skin was slick for 20-30 minutes after application. For that reason, I’d caution against using it in the A.M. if you plan to apply makeup right after. However, it is a fabulous nighttime treatment and slathering before bed is always acceptable.
The Super-Food Mask is super fun and, at $58, is super affordable for a #snobbyllama. The color is an interesting green that falls somewhere between duck-pond and kale smoothie and the smell is like grass and iced tea made a baby. I don’t know exactly what I’m smelling, but I could get high off it, honestly. Smells.So.Good.
The texture was a little complicated. In the jar, before the mask was disturbed, it looked firm and slightly gritty. But as soon as I stuck the (adorable!) wooden spatula into the product, it softened and became almost gel-like. I had to work quickly to apply the mask because it seemed to liquify as it was handled. I still feel like I can’t quite discern the proper amount to use for the mask, and I feel like I end up using a bit more than I need. However, upon rinsing, I feel like I used just the right amount because my skin is hydrated and happy without any heaviness like I often feel after using some masks, specifically those with honey.
I’ve only been using the Line Softener Intensive for a little over a month; not enough to see the results of any true “line softening”. However, when I use this as a my night cream, or give it some time to absorb after applying it in the morning, I can feel a noticeable improvement in the softness and smoothness of my skin.
A few weeks back, I ran over to my parents’ house to drop something off. It was a quick errand and I arrived with a fresh face, covered only with the Line Softener Intensive. When I walked through the door, my mom stopped me in my tracks to tell me my skin looked “absolutely beautiful and glowing”. And if you’ve been following along so far, you know that my mother isn’t exactly generous with praise, so her comment carried some weight. Much like the beautiful miron glass jar…
The jar. *sigh* Blessing and curse, this one. I appreciate miron glass because it helps filter out light and keeps the product fresh longer. In the privacy of my own bathroom, I find the weight of the jar adds luxury and makes the application feel more pampering. However, the Line Softener Intensive would be exceptional on long flights and the current packaging is a drag on travel, because it’s just so heavy. I’d love to see a travel kit in the future though…
The Super-Food Mask is fantastic too, but I’m not sure I love it for all the right reasons. There are certainly other masks that “do more” for the skin. I don’t think this would be a mask I get enough use out of to purchase regularly when there are so many other amazing masks on the market. That said… the scent of the Super-Food Mask is enough to make me repurchase it, even if the results with this particular mask are not as great as some others.
All in all, I loved November’s Beauty Discovery from Beauty Heroes and highly recommend getting your hands on these products for some indulgent self-care pre and post holiday.
A note about Beauty Heroes: Beauty Heroes has completely changed the way I experience clean beauty. My love for this company is real. Each month’s beauty discovery box contains a full-size Hero product and a deluxe sample-size or full-size Sidekick product for about $43/month. Many of the full-size Hero Products retail for upward of $70 and the deluxe Sidekicks often well above $30, so it’s one of the most cost effective ways to explore new brands and products. Additionally, members of the Beauty Heroes Tribe receive 15% off all purchases at The Beauty Store and free shipping on orders over $75, so it’s less expensive to repurchase items you’ve discovered and loved.
